Q: I was laid off from my job and I qualify for sponsored training programs. I want to get into the nursing field as a Certified Nursing Assistant or Home Health Aide. I have a conviction for shoplifting and few other minor offenses. I don’t want take this course and then find out I can’t be licensed. Would these charges be held against me?

I have worked with ex-offenders who have criminal convictions and hold health care licenses here in the state of New Jersey. I am unsure of the licensing procedures in the state of Michigan. In the mean time you may get some understanding of the laws in the state of Michigan and how they relate to the licensing process and your available options from your local legal aid office.
