FELON WITH PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE NEEDS A JOBQ: To Whom It May Concern;

My name is Anton and I have a past. It’s a shame that because of my riotous behavior my life seems to be over as far as society and their forgiveness system goes. I am a highly skilled man who really enjoys working. I have a Bachelors of Science degree and an Associate’s degree in Human Behavior and I cannot get a job because of mistakes I made years ago. I have totally changed my life and everyday I’m scared to death that I may have to take my wife and live on the streets like countless of others like me. I saw your website and I said to myself “ maybe there’s hope after all”. I would really like some feedback from you as to what I can do to help myself.

I was hired 2 months out of prison in 2008 at a fortune 500 company and worked there for a year and moved on to another fortune 500 company, unfortunately they laid me and a lot of others off, now it’s been 15 months and I haven’t been able to find a job willing to once again give me a chance to prove myself as a worthy and responsible person with “ good moral character”. Please if there is anything you can do to help me find an end to my dilemma.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely Submitted

Anton

Q: Hello Anton,

For a felon looking for a job, the United Way is a great place to start. The United Way supports a number of organizations that provide services to ex-offenders and felons. They may even have information about open positions in the many not-for-profit agencies it supports. Perhaps a more polished professional like yourself may be better served by contacting your local S.C.O.R.E (Service Corp of Retire Executives) office. As the name implies, there are retired executives who serve communities in many ways. Perhaps you may find valuable contacts that could help you locate your next opportunity.

Another suggestion I often make to ex-offenders and felons looking for jobs is to apply with cover letters and resumes. Often when applicants apply directly to employers this way, the question of a criminal record never comes up.

There is a movement in this country to help ex-offenders and felons put their pasts behind them and get jobs.  Many companies have pledged fair hiring practices when considering people with criminal backgrounds.  You will find a long list of companies that hire ex-offenders and felons as well as those who have pledge fair hiring practices:  Click Here!

I hope this helps.
