Female Felons also Have Difficulty Finding Jobs

Jobs for Felons

I am a 24 yr old female that has had a lot of trouble with the law, catching a Class B Burglary charge, a Class D Facilitation to Robbery and a few misdemeanor charges. Nobody will hire me and I’m just trying to turn my life around. I attend college also. People say that temp services help a lot of felons but it just depends on what charges they have.

I was completely devastated when I went in a temporary agency and they said felons could be apart of their company as long as they did not have the charges that I mentioned above. So what am I supposed to do? I’m done with a life of crime but but how does everyone expect me to stay on the right path if there’s no good options?

Please send me some feedback.

Thank you,
Candace

Female Felons also Have Difficulty Finding Jobs

Hello Candace,

More and more I come in contact with female felons looking for jobs. Don’t give up on temporary agencies. They can be a great source of employment opportunities for ex-offenders and felons. To give yourself the best opportunity to get hired by a temp service is to apply to small independent services rather than larger corporate owned companies. Large agencies often have strict hiring policies that are dictated on the corporate level. These policies may forbid the hiring of those with criminal records. Smaller privately owned agencies are free to hire anyone they feel will make a good employee. Temporary agencies are are especially favorable to those with strong clerical and PC skills. You can make a list of temporary employment services in your area and apply to them just as you would any other company.

The unfortunate thing about your convictions is that include forms of theft. I won’t tell you which types of employment to apply for, but I can tell you what not to apply for. You will probably have little success applying for jobs where any thing of value will be at risk, so that rules out security, retail or any jobs where money is handled.

As I suggest to all ex-offenders and felons I talk to, make a trip to your local One-stop Career Center. At the center you will find a list of resources that can help you get a job or even a career. You will also find of a list of open jobs in your area. There will also be employment specialists who can give you one-on-one assistance with your job search. You can find your local One-stop Career Center here: https://servicelocator.org

Best of luck to you.
