Ex-offender wants a Job as Truck DriverQ: Hi,

My name is Jay .  I’m email you because my boyfriend who is trying to get in trucking school is having a hard time. We have to find 3 companies who would be willing to say they will give him a job before the school willing to accept him. He has six misdemeanors in the last 7 years 2 of them are drugs charges and are over five years old. Please if you can email me some companies that would take him that would be a great help.

A: There are ex-offender and felon friendly trucking companies all across the country. A career in trucking is a viable option for many ex-offenders and felons looking for jobs.

Each company makes its own rules regarding hiring ex-offenders or felons. Some will hire a driver after 5 years or longer since the conviction. Other companies won’t hire felons or ex-offenders, regardless. You just need to get on the phone and start contacting carriers individually.

Remember to tell employers that you can be bonded.  A bond is an insurance policy that protects business owners from loss due to employee dishonesty.  There are bonds available to ex-offenders and felons sponsored by the federal government.  It will be a huge incentive for an employer to hire you if they they know that they will be protected from any type of loss due to employee misconduct.  You can find information on the Federal Bonding Program in the video below.

I hope this helps.
