A job fair, is an event held to help employers to quickly identify qualified candidates for entry level jobs. Most job fairs are several different booths set up in one large area. Each booth has a different employer. Prospective employees have the opportunity to meet representatives of various employers. This is great for ex-offenders and felons because it gives them an opportunity to meet someone face to face and make a good impression.
Attending a job fair can be a very valuable experience for a person with a criminal record who is looking for a job. They will have the opportunity to fill out applications, hand out resumes and sometimes get an interview on the spot. The impression a person makes at the job fair may decide whether he gets called in for a job interview. It is highly likely that employers will schedule job interviews with the people who have made a good impression.
For your next job fair, be sure to:
Dress like you were going on an interview. Be prepared to impress anyone who can have an impact on your job search. From your haircut to your shoes, your look should say I am a professional and I want this job.
A suit, light colored shirt with a color coordinated tie and shined shoes would be the ideal dress. At the very least you should have the shirt tie and shoes.
Have plenty of resumes. If you don’t have one, you should get some help building one. I good resume is an absolute must if you are to be successful on your job search. Also, you should have a notepad and pen in case you have to write down any information
Be prepared to be interviewed. Sometime employers are ready to interview on the spot. Be sure to practice all of your interview techniques so you can be prepared for any situation.
