Hire Felons

Q: Hello,

I have a friend who lives in Franklin, Kentucky and her fiance is a convicted felon.

They are in a dire situation and I have limited means to help them.

Neither of them have jobs and he sold his beat up old truck for a little money so they could stay in a motel. I’m not sure how long they will be able to stay there. They eat at a local soup kitchen that they are able to walk to. And they had to turn over their two children to his mother so she could take care of them.

My friend was a stay at home mom and her fiance was supposed to be the bread winner for the family but he got into trouble.

So they are in a bad situation. He is so depressed he is not looking for jobs. He doesn’t have an id and can’t afford to get a new one. He thinks he can’t get any job because of his felon status. She doesn’t yet have her first drivers license yet and can’t afford to get one. She is 22 and he is 29. Their children are 2 and 6 months.

She is taking college classes online but she is so sad and depressed it is affecting her grades.

I have helped where I can but I am in college myself and live in a different state so what I can do is limited.

I have looked and looked for help for them on the Internet but I haven’t been able to find anything but vague links. They don’t have any family who lives close enough that can or will help them.

Please, do you know any specifics on any agencies that can help them get id’s so they can get jobs? Are there any state resources for her to get help?

I’m so worried for her. Please, any information would help.
